There are many local derbies contested up and down the land with the Steel City Derby between Sheffield United and Wednesday remaining very close to my heart and whilst the likes of the Glasgow, Black Country, Manchester and Merseyside derbies are well publicised it is more noted that the Lancashire derby between Burnley and Blackburn Rovers is one not to be missed.

Ward started his career in Lancashire with Manchester City in 1989 though only made three substitute appearances, he left for Leicester City in August 1991 in a deal worth £80,000. In between then he took a loan move to Wales where he scored twice in five games for Wrexham. Even his Filbert Street stint brought too few appearances; not even joining Blackpool on loan
could get his career to a flying start. Ashley was sold to Crewe Alexandra for £80,000 in December 1992 having played 15 times for the Foxes...

Tommy Clare was considered to be one of the first professional footballers at Stoke Football   Club, in fact he was one of seven, the plucky full-back signed up along with; Phillip Birch, Edgar Montford, Ted Smith, George Shutt, Alf Edge and Bernard Rhodes in August 1885; with each player in turn agreeing to a fee of half a crown per game (equivalent to 12p).
