It was a strange game for any match from any era, it was one of them games which I’m sure would have been called off hours (if not a day) before kick-off, perhaps there was nothing funny about the 3-0 result but the conditions in which the Rovers and Blades players where forced to endure can be nothing more than described as barbaric. Sheffield United lost men due to the conditions, and without substitutions, the Blades were forced to carry on with limited numbers and eventually succumbed to a 3-0 defeat in this Football League One fixture on Saturday, 29th October 1932.

There are many local derbies contested up and down the land with the Steel City Derby between Sheffield United and Wednesday remaining very close to my heart and whilst the likes of the Glasgow, Black Country, Manchester and Merseyside derbies are well publicised it is more noted that the Lancashire derby between Burnley and Blackburn Rovers is one not to be missed.
Ward started his career in Lancashire with Manchester City in 1989 though only made three substitute appearances, he left for Leicester City in August 1991 in a deal worth £80,000.
